Do you ever go back to the same places, or pick new destinations every time? My aim is not to see as many new places as possible, my aim is to find my happy places. I love to return if I’m happy and this is my second year at Gloria Palace Amadores hotel in Gran Canaria.

I simply love the place. It’s nestled right on the cliffs above the ocean and yes, you hear the waves crashing all the time! It’s music to my ears.. Big rooms, a bit worn but not too bad. Huge balconies, fantastic breakfast and a free bottle of cava when you arrive. You can’t go wrong with that!

Two big pools and also plenty of other spaces if you like more privacy like I do.
Right below the hotel is a beach promenade between Puerto Rico and Amadores beach. I love to walk this every day and enjoy the scenery. The ocean, the sunsets, flowers and the cats that live there. Bring them a snack if you can!

Puerto Rico, the resort itself is a 15 min walk and there you will find all kinds of restaurants and shops, even a mall with some higher end stores. I don’t spend time at the bars there but if you’re looking to socialize there are plenty of places to visit. I find that most restaurants have the same basic menues, it’s a lot of meat, fish and more meat. Of course also pizza and burgers. Lots of souvenir shops everywhere and if you like skincare/makeup a Primor store has opened as well.

Speaking of skincare, don’t miss this lovely local brand Mussa Canaria. It’s made from organic bananas, coconut etc. This pic is from the airport, but buy it in the grocery store instead! It’s cheaper.

Puerto Rico is in the south of Gran Canaria and is known to have the most sun and stable weather during the winter. This year there were a bit more clouds when I was there in January, but overall sunny and bikini weather, in other words a perfect escape for winter sun.
